Celebrating Leap Day
By: IT Admin
For something that comes along only once every four years, Leap Day is surprisingly underappreciated. Aside from leap day babies (or Leapies), most people would simply chalk it up as just one extra day on the calendar. However, leap day poses many opportunities for businesses to provide an experience that is special and memorable to both the company and its customers. Here are some ideas:
- LEAPY BIRTHDAY PARTY
Birthdays are extra special for leap year babies, and for good reason: how many people do you know were actually born on February 29? Make the celebration public and invite leap year babies to celebrate together! Collaborate with businesses in your area; they are probably trying to think of ways to make leap day special too. Prepare activities that are in line with your business. For instance, if you own a cake shop, you can create a special leap day birthday cake, complete with names and a candle for each leap baby that will be attending. You can have leap day babies wear special custom button badges from
Dandy so people can easily identify who the Leapies are. Get in touch with your local media to get the word out and to get as many attendees as possible. And if the media covers your event, that’s great exposure for your business right there.
- LEAP DAY MAGNETS
There aren’t too many choices when it comes to leap day memorabilia, and the few that are available don’t last long enough to make it to the next leap year. Fridge magnets are a different story. Custom fridge magnets from
Dandy are made with high quality durable material that is hi-gloss laminated, making it last for years and years. What’s more is that you can have it in custom shapes, so in traditional leap year fashion, you can have your fridge magnets in the shape of a frog. Have the year printed on the magnet and you can sell these as novelty items at your store – you can even make it a leap year tradition, making the magnets collectible over time. Another option is to include your business information and give them as promotional gifts to customers who shopped in your store on leap day – every time they see that magnet on their fridge, they will be reminded of at least one particular day that they did business with you.
- LEAP DAY SALE
Leap day is an extra day for everyone, which means an extra day to shop! Have a special leap day sale, focusing on the idea that you only throw that particular sale or promotion once every four years. Try to offer something unusual, preferably an offer they wouldn’t normally get for the rest of the year (or the next four years, for that matter). Add extra appeal by getting a limited number of special leap year shopping bags for your first customers – customers walking around with these shopping bags can then draw more traffic to your store.
Leap day deserves more appreciation than what it is getting. This year, you can make that extra day extra special.
